Access projects on devices in the local network

Been searching for both "how to access dev desktop 2 on local network" and "how to access apache on local network", including several variants of the same search terms and looked for several hours now but cant find a viable or understandable solution in any of the answers ive read.

My only wish is to be able to access one project that works fine on the host PC on other devices like a android phone within the same wireless network.

How to access dev desktop 2 projects on local network using windows 10?

Thank you very much if you could give a understandable walk trough that works unlike several other answers to a question as important as this.:)

Moving local DevDesktop Drupal 7 sites to a new PC

$

I just bought a new computer and would like to find the easiest way possible to move my local Drupal 7 DevDesktop sites to the new computer. Anyone have a list of easy quick steps for how to do this? And, btw, the version of DevDesktop on my old pc is an older version of DevDesktop, like from back in 2015. Thus, do I need to upgrade the version on my old computer to the newest version, then install the newest version on my new PC, and then just move over the site files (what about an easy way to move over the databases?)? Thanks so much!

Not Authorized error

I have upgraded DevDesktop and regenerated my SSH key but no matter what I do I get "Something is wrong, Not authorized" when I try to upload to the Cloud or when I try to open the SSH shell on the Cloud. I am a Team Lead on the site and have full permissions. This problem started recently when I changed my Acquia password but I don't see how this can be related. I deleted my SSH key and added a new one. I also upgraded DevDesktop to the latest version. Any advice on how to debug this?

Getting Started: Acquia Cloud Sites / Subscriptions Not Loading

$

Hello! First time attempting to install and use Acquia Dev Desktop today. When I try to "Add Acquia Cloud sites," I receive the following logged details, but no sites appear:

"Getting subscription list
All user subscriptions:
Done loading subscription list."

The sites I am attempting to access have been shared with me through Acquia Cloud.

Also, I was not asked to log in to Acquia Cloud through Acquia Dev Desktop until I "Removed local sites cloned from Acquia Cloud" through Preferences and then tried to add sites from Cloud again.

Tips would be appreciated! Thank you.

Best,
Sarah

htaccess/www 301 redirect on production site

$

So, I was wondering if anyone has experience with setting a 301 in .htaccess that works when tested in the Dev/Desktop environment, but does not work when pushed to production.

Example:

Code in local .htaccess dev is-

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^gradepotentialtutoring\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^ http%{ENV:protossl}://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]

Then I remove RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^gradepotentialtutoring\.com$ [NC]

and a "www" is inserted when I try to access the local dev site. This is what I want to happen on the production site.

However, when I upload the .htaccess file with:

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^gradepotentialtutoring\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^ http%{ENV:protossl}://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]

or

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
RewriteRule ^ http%{ENV:protossl}://www.%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]

No "www" is inserted when I access the site via http://gradepotential.com

Am I missing something?

database settings for imported site

$

When I import a Drupal 6 site using "Import Local Drupal Site...", I can choose a database name, but I can't choose the password. Should I assume the password is blank?

Also, the database settings are not reflected at all in settings.php, so I have no reference to see what the setting was. The old db string is there ($db_url = ...), but it references the original database and not the now one. I can remove it that line and it makes no difference. Are these settings kept somewhere that I can reference them?

I'm asking these questions because I'm trying to test an upgrade path to Drupal 8, but I can't seem to get the correct database settings for the Drupal 6 site that I imported, so I can't get the upgrade process going.

mysqld.exe constant crash, failed DevDesktop install

I was working on a local site on my Windows 7 machine running Acquia DevDesktop 2 (3 April 2015) when suddenly mysqld.exe crashed. I attempted to restart it and it crashed again. I restarted the DevDesktop application, and it crashed yet again. I restarted the computer, opened DevDesktop and mysqld.exe crashed again.

I decided maybe upgrading DevDesktop to the latest version would help, so I did that and the installation failed. I got the following message:

Problem running post-install step. Installation may not complete correctly. For assistance, please finish the installation and post a new forum message to bit.ly/dd-bugs with these files:

I can no longer work locally because of this. Any ideas on what went wrong? It had been working fine all morning!

One site loads and another site has 403 Forbidden Error

$

Hi,

I'm new to Drupal and learning using the BuildaModule.com series. I'm using Acquia Dev Desktop and added one site to learn Drupal, and another site to brush up on my PHP. The first site loads in the browser, but the second site says "Forbidden. You don't have permission to access / on this server."

As a side note, on the second site, I was able to view an html file with the url "file:///Users/kristysimmons/Sites/devdesktop/drupal-8.1.8-php/test.html", but when I changed to url to end in .php to view the php file in the browser, it then opened up the php file in my Text Editor. I don't know if this helps.

Note:

* I've researched changing the permissions in the httpd.conf file, but my file doesn't match exactly what the Acqua Dev Desktop PDF says to do. Mine has this:

ServerName 127.0.0.1:8083

#
# Deny access to the entirety of your server's filesystem. You must
# explicitly permit access to web content directories in other
# blocks below.
#

AllowOverride none
Require all denied

* Another thread says if you go to /admin/settings/apachesolr/settings you should get a message on whether your site has connected successfully or not -- but I don't know where to find this on my computer or the program.

So, this site loads: http://127.0.0.1:8083/

This site says forbidden: http://learn-php.dd:8083/

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Kristy

Outdated config_directories settings in Dev Desktop .inc file?

$

I'm not 100% certain that this is a bug, but it causes Drush to behave oddly in Dev Desktop. The .inc file generated by Dev Desktop (cld_devcloud_{site}_dev_default.inc) includes two settings that seem to be left over from previous Drupal 8 versions:

if (empty($config_directories['active']))
    $config_directories['active'] = "sites/default/files/config_{hash}/active";
if (empty($config_directories['staging']))
    $config_directories['staging'] = "sites/default/files/config_{hash}/staging";

According to the constants docs and this article these have been deprecated in favor of a single setting, CONFIG_SYNC_DIRECTORY.

The settings cause drush export-config and other commands to behave oddly. Running it normally results in the export being saved to the staging directory specified in the .inc file, which would be inconsistent with non-DD environments. Setting CONFIG_SYNC_DIRECTORY in settings.php and running the command prompts the user to choose a directory for the export, which does not match the expected default behavior.

To work around this without editing the .inc file, I added this quick-and-dirty fix to the bottom of setttings.php:

$config_directories = array(); # Remove outdated Dev Desktop directories
$config_directories[CONFIG_SYNC_DIRECTORY] = 'sites/default/config/sync';

This may be an intentional design choice regarding the active/staging vs. sync setups for configuration management, but I thought I would report it here just in case it wasn't and to share the solution.

SOLVED: Process 'Apache web server' failed to start. Port 8083 didn't open. (Windows)

After editing my httpd.conf file I started to get the dreaded

Process 'Apache web server' failed to start. Port 8083 didn't open.

message. It turns out that the file has a few non-Windows newlines. If you edit the file with a Windows editor, chances are that your editor will fix them and consistently write CR/LFs, and this causes the failure.

Restoring the original file and making my changes with a less "helpful" editor has fixed this issue for me.

(Not sure what Type/Status to set to keep this visible...)

Drush path wrong

Hi, a new team member was having issues with getting drush to run on devdesktop.

I downloaded the latest version of devdesktop today and I was also getting an error that drush couldn't be found.

I fixed it by changing the following in /Applications/DevDesktop/tools/drush

from

"/Applications/DevDesktop2/drush/vendor/drush/drush/drush""$@"

to

"/Applications/DevDesktop2/tools/vendor/drush/drush/drush""$@"

you should probably fix it too.

Drupal Vertical Scaling

$

Hi

We are planning to expanding the current environment we have to support more users. All the instances we have are horizontal VM's which are load balanced.

I am new to Drupal and I worked on WebSphere before this. I know in WebSphere we can add multiple instances on the same node which is vertical clustering.

Can we do the same in Drupal? Can we add another instance of the same application on the same VM?
